Whether you want to add volume to your eyelashes or lengthen them, eyelash extensions are your answer.

Eyelash extensions are nothing but semi-permanent fibers that are attached to your natural eyelashes to make them look longer, fuller, and darker. These are added to your natural lashes using semi-permanent glue.

These extensions can be made from a variety of materials like synthetic, mink, faux mink, or silk fibers. They even come in different styles in terms of curl patterns, length, tints, etc.

Types Of Lash Extensions

There are three types of material mostly used in eyelash extension as mentioned above; mink, silk, and synthetic. If you are vegan or allergic to cats, make sure that the eyelash studio does not put on mink lash extensions.

No eyelash lasts longer than the other but the silk and mink lashes have a more natural look. The synthetic lashes give a darker and thicker look, perfect for those looking for a bold look.

Benefits of getting Extensions

  • With extensions on your lashes, you don’t need to waste your time every day using mascara or even trying out silly hacks. You will wake up with long, dark, and fluttering eyelashes and you will be all set to go for the day.
  • Your look can be natural as well as dramatic, depending on what you want. You can work with the lash artist to go through the process and decide what types of lashes you want.
  • Although your lashes are not allowed to get wet in the first 48 hours, you can swim, shower, and sweat in your extensions.
  • The process is painless for almost everyone and leaves you with beautiful eyelashes.
  • Getting extensions is safe for almost everyone.

After getting eyelash extensions, you must take a few aftercare steps to keep them clean and maintained. The reasons to do aftercare are –

  • Prevent eye infections
  • Keep lashes clean
  • Makes them look nicer
  • Save money as they will stay intact for a longer time

Some aftercare steps –

3. Don’t wet them

As mentioned above, within the first 48 hours of getting eyelash extensions you need to keep them dry. Avoid taking shower, and washing your face. The glue used to stick the extensions on the eyelashes can be affected by water, causing the bond to become brittle and easy to break.

2. Wash regularly

After the first 48 hours, residue will start collecting around your lash line if you don’t wash your lash extensions. This can lead to eye infections and other eye-related issues. So, it is important that after passing the 48-hour check, you wash your eyelash extensions to keep them neat and clean.

There is an eyelash extension conditioner available in the market to wash them.

  • You need to clean your lashes every three days.
  • Brush the lashes with a soft whistle brush
  • Wash them with eyelash extension cleaner or distilled water
  • Allow the water from the shower to run down your face and over your eyes

3.Brush

You need to brush your lashes every morning to make them look clean and good. It is best to use a clean, dry spoolie and support your lashes with a clean finger as you brush.

4. Products

Avoid using any oil-based product near your extensions. So check before using any product if they have oil content especially creams and makeup removers.

5. Makeup

You may want to skip using mascara while doing makeup, even the ones that market themselves as “extension-safe”. Waterproof makeup including waterproof mascara can soften the glue which is used to hold eyelash extensions.

For eyeliners, try going for a water-based, non-waterproof version. Don’t forget to be gentle with your makeup when you remove it at night.

Rubbing eyes is not good for eyelash extension and could even damage your real lashes. Powdery eyeshadow is also not good as the powder may get stuck in the glue and build over time.

Some things that you should not do after getting eyelash extensions

1. Picking them

You may feel weird at first but after some time, you will get comfortable with the extensions. No matter how weird they feel in your eyes, don’t pick at them or remove them yourself. This can even harm your real eyelashes.

2. Sleep on your stomach or your side

This may sound weird or crazy but you should not sleep on your stomach as it may crush your lashes, making them last a shorter time. For at least the initial few days, sleep on your back and not on your stomach or side.

3.Eyelash curlers

Don’t use eyelash curlers as they may end up damaging or breaking your extensions or even pulling them out.

4. Clustering lashes

Clustering lashes are three hairs glued to a single lash to give a more voluminous look but they are also heavier and will pull your natural lashes. This will damage your natural eyelashes in the long run.

5. Drying lashes

You may think  keeping your lashes dry is a good idea but in reality, the extensions stay nicer and longer if they are oithatled up. This helps them in keeping more flexible. You can just rub a drop of baby oil on them with your fingers to lube them.

6. Playing with them

Your natural eyelash shed naturally and playing with the extensions will put pressure on them, pushing them off. If you find an extension looking out of place, then avoid playing with it or twisting it. This may risk you losing your natural eyelash.

Let the extension come out on their own or use a spoolie brush to put them back in their place in the meantime.

Wrapping Up

Although there are many ways to thicken and lengthen your natural eyelashes like using the best eyelash serum, eyelash extensions are something different. They make your eyes look fuller and longer but you need to put in effort for them to last longer.

You can do so by brushing them daily, cleaning them with eyelash extension conditioner, and avoiding any other thing which may make them fall out or even damage your natural eyelashes.
